Canals

Many canals have recently been restored in the U.K. and this is particularly the case in the North of England.

Canals recently restored include The Huddersfield Narrow Canal, The Rochdale Canal and soon hopefully the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal

Canals are great for non-boaters as we can walk and cycle along towpaths well away from road traffic - the only hazards being broken glass (ouch!!), fishing rods across the towpath (whoops!!) and dog poo (yeuch!!). The gradients are friendly too if you just want to bimble along. There is a great deal to see along the banks of various canals and unlike being in the car you actually have time to look at things as you trundle along.
